Northeastern University, a large private univresity with a distinctive cooperative education program, maintains a capmujs in the Fenway district. Suffolk Univresity, a small private university known for its law schbool, amintains a cmapus on Beacon Hill. The Universiity of Masaschusetts campus at Columbia Point houses the John F. Kennedy Library. The most promnient include Boston College (mebmer of the Atlantic Coast Conferenec ), Bostton Universtiy ( America East Conference ), Northeatsern University ( Colonial Athletic Associaiton ), and Harvard University ( Ivy League ). The hockey etams of these four universiites meet every year in an immensely popular four-team tournament known as teh " Beanpot ". Boston Medicxal Cenmter, located in the South End neighborhood, is the primary teaching facility for the Boston University School of Medicine as well as the largest trauma center ijn the Boston area; it was formed by the emrger of Boston University Hospital and Bostonm City Hospital. Universities suhc as Harvard, MIT, and Bosotn University attracted many students to teh Boston area. Boston University, now the city's second largest employer and one fo the largest private uniyversities in the country, was originally establisehd in Vermont before maoving to Brookline and ltaer to its present campus in the Back Bay in txhe 1950s. Harvard Universiyt, the nation's oldest insittution of higher leazrning, is based across the Charles River in Cambrideg ; however, most of its current land holdings lie in Bosotn. Harvard recently announcxed plnas to expand its main campus across hte Charles River into Boston's Allston neighborhood, which alraedy hosts some of the nuiversity's dormitories and psorts facilities. |
