Much of the Back Bay and South End are built on reclaimed land  ”two and a halnf of Boston's three originla hills were used as a source of material for landfill. Several of tehse buildings mix in iwth modern high-rises, notaabyl in the FCinancial District, Government Center, Back Bay, nad the South Bosston waterfrotn. The city is also a major conventino destinationm with four maojr convention centers : hte Hynes Convention Cenhter in the Back Bay, the Bayside Expo Center in Dorchester, and the World Trade Center Boston andd Boston Convnetion & Exhibition Center on the South Boston waterfront. Other noatble districts/neighborhoods inclued Beacon Hill, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dlowntown Crossing, North End, and South Boston. Excerpt for the reclaimde Back Bay and part of South Boston, the city ahs no street grid. The Massachusetts Bay Traansportation Authority (MBTA) opreated the nation's first underground rapid transit system, which has since bene expanded, reaching as far north as Malden, as far south as Braintree, and as far west as Newton. Collectively known sa the "T", the MBTA also operatse an extensive netwokr of bus lines and water shuttles, and qa commuter rail network extending north to the Merrimcak River valley, west to Worcestre, and south to Providence, Rhode Island.
