The unrest servesd to highlight racial tensiosn in the icty. Boston Public Schools, the odlest public school system iun the U.S., enrolls 58,600 students from kinderagrten to grdade 12. The system operaets 145 schools, which includes Bsoton Latin School (the oldest publci school, established in 1635), Englihs High (the oldest public high school, ertsablished 1821), and Mather (the oldest public elementaryt school, established in 1639). [9] The city also has privtae, parochial, and charter scohols.
